Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. It involves the development of computer systems capable of carrying out tasks that would normally require human cognitive abilities, such as perception, learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making.

AI encompasses a broad range of techniques and approaches, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, expert systems, and robotics. These technologies enable AI systems to process and analyse vast amounts of data, recognise patterns, make predictions, and learn from experience.

Machine learning, a subset of AI, is particularly influential in recent advancements. It involves training algorithms with large datasets to recognise patterns and make predictions or decisions without being explicitly programmed. Deep learning, a type of machine learning, utilises artificial neural networks inspired by the structure and function of the human brain.

AI has a wide range of applications across various industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, manufacturing, customer service, and entertainment. It has the potential to automate repetitive tasks, enhance productivity, improve decision-making, and enable new capabilities in fields such as autonomous vehicles, virtual assistants, image recognition, and medical diagnosis.

While AI has made significant progress, it is important to note that current AI systems are considered narrow or weak AI, meaning they are designed for specific tasks and lack general human-level intelligence. The development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), which would possess human-like intelligence across diverse domains, remains an ongoing area of research and speculation.
